Career Summary

A young wingback with offensive and defensive qualities, Giuseppe Bovalina was acquired by Whitecaps FC via transfer from A-League side Adelaide United FC in April 2024.

Bovalina agreed to an MLS contract through 2026, with club options for 2027 and 2028.

WHITECAPS FC

'24: In his first season with the Blue and White, Bovalina made two starts and 16 appearances across all competitions after joining from Adelaide United FC in April. The versatile wingback made his ‘Caps debut as a substitute in the first leg of the TELUS Canadian Championship at Cavalry FC on May 7 and made his MLS debut as a substitute in the home match against Inter Miami CF on May 25. In July, Bovalina scored a goal in the club’s international friendly against Wrexham AFC, unleashing a powerful, left-footed strike into the top corner. In addition, the Aussie started five matches for Whitecaps FC 2 in MLS NEXT Pro action.

ADELAIDE UNITED FC

'21-'24: Bovalina originally came through Adelaide United’s youth academy, signing his first professional contract last September after making his first team debut in Adelaide’s Australia Cup clash against Northcote City on August 14, 2023. The youngster started 18 of his 23 appearances across all competitions for his hometown club, tallying a goal and adding two assists. During his time in the academy, Bovalina made 51 appearances and added 10 goals in the Southern Australian RAA National Premier Leagues division across three seasons. Five of the wingback’s goals came during the 2023 season, as the team were crowned champions of the division for the first time after a 7-2 victory over Modbury Jets in the final.

INTERNATIONAL

At the international level, Bovalina has made one appearance for Australia’s U-23 side, starting the Olyroos’ penalty shootout win over Egypt in the semifinal of the West Asian Football Federation U-23 Championship in March 2024.

YOUTH

In addition to spending time with Adelaide United FC's academy, Bovalina played with Australian youth sides Western Strikers and Croydon Kings.
