DENVER, CO – Whitecaps FC 2 traveled to face Western Conference leaders Colorado Rapids 2 on Saturday, falling 6-2 at the University of Denver Soccer Stadium.
After going down 3-0 early, the 'Caps slowly battled back.
Late in the first half, Lowell Wright caught the goalkeeper off his line and lofted in a shot from the halfway line to cut the deficit to 3-1.
Then, second into the second half, Darko Ilić intercepted a pass at midfield and darted all the way into the box, finishing himself to make it 3-2.
But the comeback would fall short, as the Rapids had another fruitful 10-minute period to stretch out their lead and finish the match with a 6-2 victory.
WFC2 face another road match at Houston Dynamo 2 next Sunday, August 13. They then return home for a doubleheader with the first team at BC Place on Sunday, August 20, taking on Austin FC II.
