VANCOUVER, BC – Vancouver Whitecaps FC announced on Saturday that Whitecaps FC 2 (WFC2) midfielder Valter Sedin has signed an MLS short-term agreement and will be available for selection for tonight's MLS regular season home match against D.C. United. Kickoff from BC Place is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. PT.Â
This is the first time Sedin has signed a short-term agreement with the first team. He is the fifth WFC2 player to be called up this year.Â
Sedin, 19, signed his first professional contract with WFC2 last month. The midfielder went on to start four of his five appearances with the young 'Caps, tallying two assists.
Sedin first joined the Whitecaps FC BMO Academy System in August 2020 and spent five years in the program, including a memorable run with the U-17s to the 2024 MLS NEXT quarterfinals, as well as time in the BCPL (formerly League1 BC). On June 30, 2024, Sedin made his professional debut as an academy call-up with WFC2.
In February of 2025, the dual-citizen moved to Sweden to play for the U-19 side of Hammarby IF.
This past summer, Sedin played a key role for Canada’s U-20 men’s national team at the 2026 Concacaf U-20 championship in Mexico, scoring in Canada’s final group stage match against Jamaica and helping the Red and White win their quarterfinal to qualify for the 2027 FIFA U-20 World Cup for the first time since 2007.
