VANCOUVER, BC – Vancouver Whitecaps FC midfielder Pedro Vite has been called up to Ecuador's men's national team for their June international window
The 23-year-old attacking midfielder will look to help his country punch their ticket to the 2026 FIFA Men's World Cup, as Ecuador sit second in CONMEBOL 2026 FIFA Men’s World Cup Qualifying with a 7W-2L-5D record (23 points) despite being deducted three points at the beginning of qualifying.
La Tri open up the window with a home match against Brazil on Thursday, June 5 at Estadio Monumental Banco Pichincha in Guayaquil, Ecuador with kickoff at 4 p.m. PT. Ecuador and Vite then wrap-up the window with a visit to Peru on Tuesday, June 10 at Estadio Nacional de Lima in Lima, Peru, with kickoff set for 6:30 p.m. PT.
Vite will miss the 'Caps MLS regular season home match against Seattle Sounders FC on Sunday, June 8.
The 'Caps maestro has made four starts in six appearances for Ecuador's senior men's national team, scoring on his debut in 2023. Most recently, he started both matches in the last World Cup qualifying window back in March as Ecuador earned a 2-1 victory over Venezuela and a 0-0 away draw against Chile.
This season, Vite has been in phenomenal form, recording five goals and six assists across all competitions as he's helped lead the 'Caps to their first-ever Concacaf Champions Cup final and first place in the MLS Western Conference.
Since arriving to Vancouver from Ecuadorian side Independiente del Valle in 2021, Vite has started 94 of his 133 appearances across all competitions for Whitecaps FC. In total, the attacking midfielder has recorded 15 goals and 18 assists during his time with the 'Caps.
