VANCOUVER, BC – Major League Soccer announced on Monday that Vancouver Whitecaps FC striker Brian White has been named to MLS' Team of Matchday for Matchday 15 after his two-goal performance in the 'Caps 3-2 comeback road win over Real Salt Lake. The victory saw the 'Caps extend their club record MLS era unbeaten run to 14 matches across all competitions. They also extended their unbeaten run in MLS play to nine matches, which is now their second-longest unbeaten run in MLS play
White scored his 14th and 15th goals across all competitions in the match, becoming the first player in the club’s MLS era to record 15+ goals in three consecutive seasons. The Flemington, New Jersey native, who has been called up to the U.S. men's national team for the upcoming June international window, is now at 71 goals across all competitions for Whitecaps FC and is eight away from equaling Jason Jordan for third all-time in goals scored and nine away from equaling John Catliff for second. In fact, White is now two goals away from reaching 100 career goals for club and country.
In addition, prior to his second goal of the match, White became the third player in MLS history to reach 70 career regular season goals without attempting a single penalty kick (non-shootouts). Five minutes after grabbing his first of the match, the clinical striker buried his first MLS penalty kick attempt with ease. White also recorded four shots, three successful duels won, and 87% passing accuracy in the win.
This marks White's fourth selection to the MLS Team of the Matchday this season (Matchday 2, Matchday 8, Matchday 12). In total, nine different Whitecaps FC members have been named to the MLS Team of the Matchday this season. Along with White, head coach Jesper Sørensen (Matchday 4, Matchday 8), defenders Tristan Blackmon, (Matchday 4, Matchday 7, Matchday 12), Édier Ocampo (Matchday 9) and Mathías Laborda (Matchday 3), midfielders Pedro Vite (Matchday 1, Matchday 10) and Sebastian Berhalter (Matchday 4), as well as forwards Jayden Nelson (Matchday 1) and Emmanuel Sabbi (Matchday 8) have also earned selections to the Team of the Matchday.
