VANCOUVER, BC – Vancouver Whitecaps FC confirmed on Sunday that midfielder Andrés Cubas has been called up to Paraguay's men's national team for the upcoming fall international window.
The window marks the first meeting for international sides after the 2026 FIFA Men's World Cup this summer. Cubas played every minute for Paraguay at the tournament, helping his country reach the Round of 16 after defeating Germany in the Round of 32. He also led midfielders at the World Cup in defensive contributions with 52.
Paraguay will play a pair of friendlies in this upcoming window, facing Bolivia on Sunday, September 27, with kickoff scheduled for 1:30 p.m. PT at Audi Field in Washington, DC. They will then face Colombia on Friday, October 2 at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, New Jersey, with kickoff set for 5 p.m. PT.
Born in Argentina, Cubas has represented Paraguay at the international level 38 times since 2019, making 36 starts across all competitions. Cubas previously played for Argentina at the U-20 level, where he started two of his three appearances for the side at the 2015 U-20 World Cup in New Zealand.
This season, Cubas recorded 24 starts, 27 appearances, as well as five assists across all competitions.
All-time, the defensive maestro has started 149 of his 161 appearances across all competitions since joining Whitecaps FC in April 2022, recording one goal and 15 assists.
