Sam Adekugbe has burst onto the Major League Soccer scene in 2015. The Calgary, Alberta resident, who came through Whitecaps FC's Residency program, has already set career-highs in starts, appearances, and minutes. In the second installment of our new "10 questions" series, we sat down Adekugbe to give you a glimpse of his life away from soccer.
1. If you weren't a soccer player, what would you be?
Tennis player. I’m a big tennis fan.
- Who would play you in the film of your life?
Denzel Washington.
3. What’s the last thing you read?
I am Zlatan. It’s Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s autobiography. It was really good.
4. What’s on your bucket list?
I’m scared of heights but I’ve always wanted to go bungee jumping. I’ve always been too scared to do it but I figure if I can do it eventually that might break the fear.
5. Do you have any superstitions?
Don’t put my boots on the table. I think it’s an English thing. My dad told me about it a long time ago. I can’t remember what the actual superstition is itself but I just never did it.
6. If you were stuck on a deserted island, which of your teammates would you bring?
[Marco] Bustos. He’s my roommate so I’m used to him. I could handle living with him.
- What’s your guilty pleasure?
Definitely shopping.
8. What’s your worst habit?
Biting my nails.
9. When are you happiest?
Playing soccer with my family.
10. What's your greatest fear?
Not being able to say I tried my hardest.
