VANCOUVER, BC – MLS NEXT Pro announced on Wednesday that Whitecaps FC 2 (WFC2) forward Johnny Selemani has been named the MLS NEXT Pro Player of the Matchweek for Matchweek 26 after scoring a brace in WFC2's resounding 5-1 victory over Sporting Kansas City II.
Selemani scored a stunning brace, including a left-footed blast from outside the box after turning a pair of SKC II defenders. The Whitecaps FC BMO Academy product now has four goal contributions in his last two appearances (three goals, one assist) and has enjoyed a bright spell since recovering from a right foot fracture sustained during first team preseason camp in Spain this past January.
The product of Edmonton, Alberta has also spent time with the first team over the last few months, making his first start in the Leagues Cup home match against FC Juárez on August 7 and coming off the bench at Tigres UANL on August 11 in the same competition.
Selemani's left-footed strike, as well as Cristiano Bruletti's smart back heel goal, were both nominated for MLS NEXT Pro Goal of the Matchweek. Fans can cast their vote via the MLS NEXT Pro Instagram account.
Despite being eliminated from playoff contention, WFC2 still have three matches remaining in the 2026 MLS NEXT Pro regular season, including their season finale against San Jose Earthquakes II on Sunday, September 20. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. PT.
WFC2 tickets are only $10 and can be purchased at whitecapsfc.com/wfc2. Season ticket members can use their account number as the access key at checkout for complimentary tickets. Youth who are 18 and under get in free.
