PORTLAND, OR – Whitecaps FC 2 claimed their first point of the 2026 MLS NEXT Pro regular season, drawing 0-0 with Cascadia rivals Portland Timbers2 in regulation at Providence Park in Portland, Oregon, but falling in the ensuing shootout.

The match started with the young 'Caps on the front foot, as Yeider Zuluaga got in behind the Timbers2 backline and forced goalkeeper Hunter Sulte into a smart save.

Throughout the first half, the two sides exchanged possession as they looked to break each other down.

The next big chance of the match would come at the start of the second half, as Noah Santos got on the end of an aerial long ball that put him one-on-one with 'Caps first team goalkeeper Isaac Boehmer. The Canadian Homegrown product made it look easy, but came out of his net calmly to cut down the angle and catch Santos' attempt with his gloves.

In the 63rd minute, it was Daniel Ittycheria's turn to try to break the deadlock, but he too was denied by Sulte after pacing past his defender.

Shortly after, Timbers2 winger Jacob Izoita found himself in space in the WFC2 box and forced Boehmer into a big save to his left, denying the youngster from finding the far post.

Boehmer continued his star showing. This time, Santos sent a curling shot that had eyes for the top corner, but Boehmer stretched magnificently to parry the effort off the crossbar and away, keeping the match scoreless.

Timbers2 once again hit the crossbar in the 88th minute through Adolfo Enriquez, who unleashed a powerful strike from just outside the box.

Next up, the young 'Caps are set to return to Vancouver in preparation for their home opener at BC Place on Sunday, March 15 against Minnesota United FC 2, with kickoff set for 6:30 p.m. PT.
